Traffic stop for no seat belt yields a stolen vehicle arrest

According to his citation, on Saturday July 25, 2020 Middlesboro Officer Chris Barnes was parked at the entrance to the Beans Fork community on Highway 441 when he observed a 4 door silver Saturn with 18 year old Trey Hembree of Middlesboro driving without a seat belt.

After initiating a traffic stop, Officer Barnes ran the vehicle through Middlesboro dispatch which came back as stolen out of Union County, Tennessee.

Hembree was then arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted and the officer found two syringes in the glove compartment. Also located was a small plastic distribution baggie in the passenger seat containing a crystal like substance believed to be Methamphetamine.

Trey Hembree was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with possession of controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (Methamphetamine), buying/possessing drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property under $10,000, no operators license, failure to wear seat belt, and failure to produce insurance card.
