Sunday night March 1, 2020 a short time after 7pm, Middlesboro Police responded to a call into dispatch regarding a one-year old child found the parking lot of Cumberland Village Apartments and had been unattended for an hour.
The child only had on a t-shirt and soiled diaper. The citation states that Officer Jeremiah Johnson, assisted by Sgt. Kenny Vanover, responded to the scene.
Upon contact with the caller, the location of the child’s residence was determined after the mother showed up while officers were on scene. The officer found the father of the child, 24 year old Devon Williams of Middlesboro, asleep in the apartment.
During the investigation Williams was found to have two outstanding bench warrants. A search incident to arrest revealed that Williams was in possession of a tied off bag of a white powder-substance determined to be cocaine in his right pants’ pocket. He was also found to have Alprazolam tablets, Marijuana, and a digital scale with residue.
Devon Williams was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (Cocaine), possession of controlled substance 3rd degree (drug unspecified), possession of Marijuana, buying/possessing drug paraphernalia, and he was served the two outstanding warrants.
Social Services was requested and they released the child to the mother who was not at the home at the time of the incident.
