Complaint call involving juveniles results in wanton endangerment charges

Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kyle Gray along with Capt. Kevin Berry, Detective James Sizemore, Sgt. Brett Reeves, and Bailiff Roy Ball arrested 59 year old Shirley Lynn Abbott of Williamsburg on Friday morning September 6, 2019 at approximately 11:39 AM at Corbin Manor Apartments while the Laurel County Sheriff's office was investigating a complaint there involving a juvenile.


When deputies arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation they located Abbott caring for an 11-year-old female juvenile and a two-year-old male juvenile. Investigators determined that Abbott was under the influence and they found drug paraphernalia there.


Shirley Lynn Abbott was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances; possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of wanton endangerment – second-degree.


Abbott was lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.


Social services was notified and assisted the Sheriff's office at the scene placing the children with other family members. Investigation is continuing by the Laurel County Sheriff's office.
