Disturbance complaint in Laurel nets 2 drug arrests

Laurel Sheriff’s Sgt. Brett Reeves along with Deputy Taylor McDaniel, Detective Kyle Gray, Deputy Hunter Disney, and Bailiff Jacklyn Johnson arrested two individuals off Somerset Road, approximately 12 miles west of London while investigating a disturbance complaint there.


The arrests occurred on Friday afternoon June 21, 2019 at approximately 2:28 PM after deputies arrived at the scene and located a male and a female subject in possession of components apparently used to manufacture methamphetamine including coffee filters with white residue on them, rubber hoses with white residue on them, baggies, baggies containing a white crystal substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine, pipes and hypodermic needles. Initially when deputies arrived at the scene, the female subject ran off over a hill into a wood line but was located shortly thereafter by deputies.


The two arrested individuals were identified as: 46 year old Danny Hicks of Witt Cemetery Rd., London charged with public intoxication – controlled substances; possession of drug paraphernalia; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense; manufacturing methamphetamine first offense; possession of a controlled substance first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine.

40 year old Davan Rena Smith of Somerset Rd., London charged with public intoxication – controlled substances; possession of drug paraphernalia; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense; manufacturing methamphetamine- first offense; possession of a controlled substance first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; tampering with physical evidence; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense.


Witt and Smith were lodged in the Laurel County corrections center.
