Knock and talk produces drug arrest

Early Friday morning March 1st just after midnight, Middlesboro Officer Nick Capps assisted by Officer Joel Quillen and Sgt. Josh Burchett, performed a knock and talk at a residence on Dorchester Avenue.


According to the citation, the officers were greeted at the door by Jamie Leach. Officer Capps then asked whose residence it was and 25 year old Samantha Smith states it was hers and that she paid the rent. Consent to search the home was given by Smith and found in the bedroom by Capps was a black Sentry box laying on the bed along with a single distribution baggy and a digital scale.


Upon opening the box Officer Capps found distribution baggies and two baggies with a crystal like substance believed to be Methamphetamine weighing approximately 37 grams. Smith stated that the bedroom the items were found in was hers.


Samantha Smith was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with trafficking in controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia – advertisement, and she was also served a probation violation which has no bond.
