Lee county Virginia robbery suspect caught

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an armed robbery at a convenience store in Dot, Virgina.

Sheriff Gary Parsons says a gas station known as Dot Grocery, was robbed at gunpoint late Friday night.


Parsons says a male suspect, identified as Mark Bates, was wearing a mask and came into the store just before 10:30 p.m. with a gun and demanded money from the clerk, getting away with an unknown amount of cash. Parsons says Bates then fled the scene.


Virginia State Police say that Bates is currently being booked into the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield, Virginia. A spokesperson at the facility says Bates has been charged with:

Trespassing, trespassing after being forbidden to do so, abduction by force, robbery of business with a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and firearm possession by a non-violent felony offender within 10 years.
