Letcher County nurse and former county coroner with history of abuse arrested again for assault

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

From WRIL/WYMT/Mountain Eagle -

Marty Baker - LCJ

Earlier this week we were contacted about a severe assault on a man in the Letcher County area supposedly caused by a man with a history of violence. Charges have now been lodged against 48-year-old Marty Baker for an incident that took place on Sunday, August 21, 2022.

Former Letcher County Coroner and current Whitesburg ARH nurse Baker is accused of severely assaulting Christopher Puckett at a residence in the West Whitesburg area. Several Facebook posts of Puckett's injuries were posted to being attention to the incident asking for justice.

We spoke to a friend of Puckett's that stated this was over a supposed trespassing issue. The friend tells us that at the time Puckett is accused of trespassing, several people were with him that can verify he was not near the property in question.

WYMT states that Baker has been charged with felony assault - 2nd degree

This is not the first time Baker has been charged with assault. The Mountain Eagle reported in November of 2018 that Baker was charged with fourth degree assault with minor injury after allegedly head-butting, biting and kicking his ex-girlfriend on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was later sentenced to six months in jail but it was probated for two years.

Baker is a registered nurse and night shift supervisor at the Whitesburg Hospital. He served as Letcher County Coroner from 2010-2015, when he resigned just nine months after being sworn in for a second term.
