JROTC instructor, 47 year old Daniel Tuttle of Middlesboro, has turned himself into authorities and has been booked into the Harlan County Detention Center after allegations of inappropriate contact with a 15 year old female student at Harlan County High School.
Harlan Superintendent Brent Roark tells WRIL that the allegation was made by the student’s family directly to Kentucky State Police on the night of March 15, 2018.
He goes on to say that the morning of March 16th KSP, along with social services, came to see him in regard to the allegations. Superintendent Roark states that he then placed Tuttle on administrative leave pending the investigation, but that he is no longer employed with the school system.
The superintendent said that a portion of the JROTC instructor’s pay is funded through the federal government, but that Tuttle was fully employed by the school system.
Daniel Tuttle has been formally charged with sexual abuse 1st degree and currently has no bond.
He was previously employed by Middlesboro, Pineville, and Bell County law enforcement agencies, but not during the time of the allegation.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Josh Howard is handling this investigation. Here is the release that was sent out at 11:39 this morning.
"Sexual Abuse Arrest in Harlan County
Harlan, Ky. (January 28, 2019) Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan Detective Josh Howard arrests a Harlan County man for sexual abuse 1st degree. On March 16th 2018 Harlan County Department of Social Services received a complaint of allegations of sexual abuse involving a 15 year old female and Daniel Tuttle. Allegations involve inappropriate touching on multiple occasions while she was his student at Harlan County High School.
Through the investigation, Det. Howard was able to collect information that led to an arrest warrant issued against Mr. Tuttle on January 8, 2019.
On January 28, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Det. Howard arrested Daniel Tuttle (47) of Middlesboro charging him with Sexual Abuse 1st degree. Mr. Tuttle was lodged into the Harlan County Detention Center after turning himself in at the detention center."
