Two arrested for burglary of Middlesboro business, a third arrest during traffic stop

Early Saturday morning March 6, 2021 at 4:48am, Slusher Family Dental on Cumberland Avenue was burglarized.


In a Middlesboro Police citation, Sgt. Barry Cowan states that video surveillance from a neighboring business showed that a black truck driven by 49 year old David Roark of Middlesboro had been involved along with another individual identified as 21-year-old James Madden also of Middlesboro.


Later Saturday afternoon around 4:20pm, Sgt. Cowan was responding to a call at Walmart when he sees the truck and makes a traffic stop in the parking lot. During the stop the sergeant saw an air compressor in plain view in the bed of the truck as the item taken from the business. After being advised his rights, Roark admitted to being the driver during the burglary.


During the traffic stop, the front passenger - 36 year old Anthony Morrison of Middlesboro - gave Sgt. Cowan consent to search his person. During the search, Sgt. Cowan found two bags that contained suspected Methamphetamine and $177.00 in cash.


Morrison was charged for trafficking controlled substance - 1st degree - greater than 2 grams (Methamphetamine).


The second individual, James Madden, was taken into custody after being located on south 21st Street, still wearing the same clothing as seen in the video surveillance


All three were lodged in the Bell County Detention Center. Roark and Madden were charged with burglary 3rd degree.
