A Wallins Kentucky man is in jail for among other things, stealing marine batteries from a local business.
On Sunday September 22, 2019 Middlesboro car lot owners Joey Pace and Mike Smith reported catching individuals on surveillance camera stealing eight marine batteries from the business on Highway 25E. Pace published the pictures on social media hoping to find the identity of two males who stole the items while no one was at the lot.
The same two males returned to the lot on Saturday, September 28, 2019 and were once again caught on camera with Pace publishing the pictures hoping to have the men identified.
Reports were made to Middlesboro Police Department Lt. Josh Burchett who worked in conjunction with Kentucky State Police Trooper Joey Brigmon who put out a Be On The Lookout for an individual identified as 39-year-old Wendell Allen Jones of Wallins Kentucky.
On Monday evening September 30th at 7:16pm Kentucky State Trooper Jake Spurlock stopped Jones after observing him driving without a seat belt on Highway 219. Jones was unable to produce a driver’s license, valid registration, or insurance on the 1992 F-150 pickup he was driving.
He was arrested and transported to the Bell County Detention Center and charged with failure to produce an insurance card, failure to wear seat belts, no license, no registration, and failure to maintain required insurance – 1st offense.
Wendell Jones was also charged with theft by unlawful taking over $500/under $10,000 for a September 20th incident at Pilot Service Center on Highway 25E. The citation taken out by Trooper Brigmon states that Jones is accused of walking into Pilot by the side door, entering the office, picking up a box of cigarettes, and walking back out the side door. The value of the cigarettes is $1,500.
Later that evening at 8:00pm Lt. Josh Burchett charged Jones with theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but under $10,000. The citation states that Jones came to Bell County on US 25E and stopped at the lot stealing a total of 12 marine batteries in boats on the property. The video showed Jones walking the lot and carrying the batteries off to his truck. The value of the batteries is estimated at $1,500.
Wendell Allen Jones is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
No word on the identity of the other individual seen on video surveillance.
