From The Harlan County Sheriff's Department -
On Thursday, August 5, 2021, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from U-Haul in reference to a truck that was rented from Barbourville several weeks ago and not returned. They had received information that the truck was located at a residence in Wallins.
The U-Haul truck was located behind a residence in Wallins. Through further investigation, it was discovered that the Catalytic Converter had been removed and there was additional damage to the vehicle.
26 year old Tyler Riley of Wallins was charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking ($500 or more but under $10,000) and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.
Deputies also discovered that he had an outstanding Bench Warrant from Knox County District Court for Failure to Appear on a Theft Charge and a Bench Warrant for Non-Payment of Fines from Bell County.
Riley was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office.
