Corbin man arrested after a domestic call leads to charges involving child neglect among others

On Monday, July 17, 2023, Knox County Deputies were dispatched to a residence on KY 6 in Corbin to conduct a welfare check. After arriving at the location and conducted an investigation, the deputies learned that a pregnant female had been beaten and choked

by her husband.


Deputies also observed a 2-year-old child asleep under a piece of used drywall that contained nails sticking out of it. The husband, 34-year-old Wayne Garland of Corbin, KY, was arrested and charged with Assault-4th Degree, Strangulation-2nd Degree, Wanton Endangerment-2nd degree and Abuse or Neglect of a Child.


Knox EMS was called to the residence and transported the victim to Corbin Baptist

Health Center for treatment. Due to the very poor living conditions observed inside the

residence, the Department of Social Services was contacted and also responded to the

residence.


Wayne Garland was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center held under a $15,000 cash bond.
