Disturbance complaint results in local drug arrest and federal attention for gun charge

On Sunday, October 20, 2019 Knox County Deputies Bobby Jones and Sam Mullins responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Summit Drive in Flat Lick.


After making contact with the occupants at the residence, deputies observed a small plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine, a plastic bag of suspected marijuana, a set of digital scales and several tablets including Hydrocodone and Gabapentin. Deputies also located a rifle with a suppressor attached to the barrel.


Arrested was 48 year old Donnie L Helton of Flat Lick, KY charging him with Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Controlled Substance-1st Degree, Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Menacing and Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.

An agent with ATF has met with the deputies and has agreed to adopt a case on the illegal suppressor.


Donnie Helton was also wanted on a Whitley County Bench Warrant for failure to appear for sentencing on Trafficking Controlled Substance-1st Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance-1st Degree. Possession of Controlled Substance-2nd Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance-3rd Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charges


Donnie Helton was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
