Gray, Ky. Man Charged With Murder After Stabbing Incident - Victim Identified

As we previously reported, there was a stabbing incident at a Gray residence on KY 1232 at approximately 5:30pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2024. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded including KSP Detective Andy Soltess, Knox County Coroner's Office, Knox County Ambulance, Knox County Sheriff's Department, and Knox County Child Protective Services.


Trooper Shane Jacobs reports that Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department in reference to the stabbing occurring at 925 highway 1232 in Gray, Ky. Troopers and Detectives from Post 10 responded and began an investigation.


The Initial investigation indicates a physical altercation occurred between 67-year-old Norman McCreary and 36-year-old Eric Hibbard at the residence of McCreary. Throughout the course of the altercation, Hibbard brandished a knife and stabbed McCreary several times in the neck and torso. Norman McCreary sustained fatal injuries. Knox County Coroner Office responded and pronounced McCreary deceased.


Detective Soltess lodged Hibbard in the Knox County Detention Center charging him with Murder.


The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
