Knox Ky Sheriff's Department Responds to Fatal Accident

From Knox County Ky Sheriff's Department -

Gray, Ky. - At approximately 12:58 p.m. Knox County Deputies led by Lt. Sam Mullins, responded to a single vehicle fatality beside the Dollar Store on Highway 25E.
Once on scene it was determined that the 78-year-old male operator of a skid steer unit had entered his property adjacent to the store. While the man was unloading items off of a trailer the skid steer came too close to a ditch line rolling over, impacting the individual.
While first responders were able to remove the man from the equipment and perform CPR, he was later declared deceased at Baptist Health in Corbin.
At this time the name of the individual is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
Also responding to the scene was Corbin Fire Department, Knox EMS, Knox County Emergency Management, and West Knox Fire Department.

The detail that the man was on his own property beside the store, unloading a trailer, makes this feel like a routine task that turned tragic in an instant. Skid steers have a notoriously high center of gravity and short wheelbase, so a ditch line near a driveway edge can be unforgiving even at low speed. I wonder whether the report's mention of the Dollar Store location means the ditch was a commercial drainage swale rather than a typical farm ditch.
