Middlesboro Stepfather Charged With Murder After Shooting Stepson

As we reported earlier, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, a short time before 5:00 pm, Middlesboro Police/Fire/EMS responded to a reported shooting near Bell County Coal on Highway 74. Once on scene, it was discovered that the victim, 38-year-old Danny Brown Jr., was being driven to Middlesboro ARH Hospital by the alleged shooter, 56-year-old Wiley Denzil Pittman, his stepfather.

At 5:02 pm Kentucky State Police received a request for assistance from the Middlesboro Police Department regarding a shooting. Also responding to assist was the Bell County Sheriff's Department.

Once at the hospital, Danny Brown Jr. succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by Bell County Deputy Coroner Jason Steele.

According to the citation from KSP Trooper Jonathan Ledford, Wiley Pittman was arrested at Middlesboro ARH Hospital for the shooting death of Danny Brown Jr. Pittman was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with Murder. Bond has not been set at this time.

The cause of the shooting is still under investigation.
