New Tazewell Tn Man In Custody After Dragging Officer During Traffic Stop

On Friday, February 13, 2026, at approximately 10:00am the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Eastern District of Kentucky (E/KY) Central Kentucky Fugitive Task Force (CKFTF) London Office, along with Bell County (KY) Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), USMS Eastern District of Tennessee (E/TN) Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force (SMFTF) Knoxville Office, and Blount County (TN) Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) SWAT & K9 Units conducted an enforcement operation as a result of a fugitive investigation on the 300 block of Mason Hill Road in Pineville, KY.

As a result of the operation, 24-year-old John Brandon Gray of New Tazewell, Tn. was taken into custody without incident. Gray was wanted by the Barbourville (KY) Police Department (BPD) for Assault 2^nd Degree (Police Officer), Fleeing or Evading Police 1^st Degree (Motor Vehicle), (2) two counts of Wanton Endangerment 1^st Degree (Police Officer), and Wanton Endangerment 1^st Degree.

The warrants were issued in reference to an incident where a Barbourville Police Officer was dragged by a vehicle during a traffic stop. The officer was medically treated and expected to make a full recovery.

John Gray was transported to the Knox County Detention Center (KCDC) where he will await his court date in Knox County, KY.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
