On Sunday October 13, 2019 Middlesboro Officers Lt. Joe Holder, Josh Harris, and Jeremiah Johnson responded to a call from Belk department store in Middlesboro in reference to a shoplifter.

The loss prevention employee observed a man, identified as 46 year old Ricky Lee of Hulen Kentucky, conceal a blue flashlight, black flashlight, dashboard camera, and 12 volt compressor. Lee was then seen leaving the store without paying for the items.

The employee then attempted to apprehend Lee, but he fled behind the Middlesboro Mall.

Officer Jeremiah Johnson located Lee hiding in the fire training tower at the Middlesboro Street Department. A search of Lee revealed some of the items taken from the store. After being read his rights he admitted to being in the store on Saturday October 12th taking other merchandise valued at $201.40.

While being questioned, Ricky Lee gave the name of Freddy Lee and was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center under that name. Lt. Holder’s citation states that a few hours later he was identified correctly as Ricky Lee. He stated he gave that name because he thought he had warrants.

Ricky Lee has been charged with two counts of theft by unlawful taking under $500, criminal trespassing – 2nd degree, and theft of identity of another without consent.
