On Friday February 6, 2026, Claiborne County K9 Deputy Alyssa Tompkins states in a citation that she had just assisted Deputy Z. Mullins on a call at the Family Justice Center in regard to death threats between two people she he had previously dealt with on a domestic assault at a Dogwood Rd residence in Tazewell.
After Tomkins and Sgt. Kenneth Ochoa arrived at the residence to speak with the woman living there, 24-year-old Aubrea Miles, the door was opened by Miles and the deputy was met with a strong odor of Marijuana both from the home and Miles.Â
Due to having prior knowledge of two young children inside the residence, Sgt. Ochoa asked for permission to check the welfare of the children, and it was given.
The citation further states that while Sgt. Ochoa checked the welfare of the children, Aubrea told Deputy Tomkins she smoked marijuana in the home with the children inside. She was also exhibiting behavior consistent with being under the influence. Several partially smoked joints were found in the kitchen after Miles admitted to having them.
After Aubrea was told she couldn’t leave, she woke up the children and started getting them dressed packing a bag for them both. During this time one of the children was seen with bruises on his body and face. Both children also had a strong odor of Marijuana coming from their person and the joints were within their reach.
Aubrea Miles was placed under arrest and transported to Claiborne County Jail without further Incident she was charged with (2) two counts of child abuse/neglect and possession of schedule VI drugs.
Both children were transported to Claiborne County Justice Center waiting for DCS to arrive.
