On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at approximately 6:30 pm Knox County Deputies responded to a complaint of a gray 2018 Dodge van that had been taken from a resident without the owner’s permission. The van was located traveling on US 25E in Barbourville.
After conducting a traffic stop five individual were observed inside the van. Knox County Deputy SGT Jesse Smith conducted a free air sniff walk around the van with his Canine Unit Pita. Pita alerted on the passenger side of the vehicle. A plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine was located in that area. A loaded handgun, a syringe, several empty clear plastic bags and a set of digital scales were also located on the driver side of the vehicle.
The driver, William Gray age 46 of Cannon, KY was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance-1st Degree. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon.
Front seat passenger, Amy Eversole age 39 of Artemus, KY, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance-1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
A passenger in the rear of the van, Jennifer Jones age 43 of Corbin, KY, attempted to destroy a plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine and had a syringe hidden inside her under clothes. She was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance-1st Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The two other passengers in the van were wanted on outstanding warrants:
Shannon W Burnett age 33 of Gray, KY arrested on a Knox County Bench Warrant for failure to appear on a Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition/Shoplifting charge.
Destiny Mclane age 39 of Cannon, KY arrested on a Knox County Bench Warrant for failure to appear on a Criminal Possession Forged Instrutment-2nd Degree charge.
All five individuals were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
