Two charged with wanton endangerment after child found in the roadway

From the Knox County Ky Sheriff's Department -

On Saturday, June 25, 2022, at approximately 8:00 am Knox County Deputy Sam Mullins responded to a report of two small children in the middle of Highway KY 223 in Dewitt.

When Deputy Mullins arrived at the location, he made contact with a female motorist that observed a 2 year old child, wearing nothing but a diaper, lying in the middle of KY 223 and a 4 year old running onto KY 223 towards the other child. The children were taken by the motorist to a near-by residence and reported to Knox Dispatch. Child Protective Services was also notified and responded to the current location of the children.

Approximately 1 hour after Deputy Mullins and a social worker had custody of the children, a call was made to Knox 911 by a female reporting her two children missing.

After conducting an investigation, Deputy Mullins arrested the parents, 23-year-old Katelyn Hamilton of Flat Lick, KY and 29-year-old Brandon E Cottingham of Flat Lick, KY charging each of them with 2 counts of Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree.

Katelyn Hamilton and Brandon Cottingham were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

The Child Protective Services worker released the two children, along with another 6 year old child that was home inside the residence, to a family member.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Sammy Faris assisted in the investigation and arrests.
