Two new Middlesboro officers sworn in

The City of Middlesboro welcomes two new officers to the Middlesboro Police Department on Friday August 23, 2019.


In council chambers today with Acting Chief Tom Busic present, Mayor Rick Nelson swore in Ben Spurlock and Dakota Torstrick.


Officer Spurlock retired from Middlesboro as a Patrol Sergeant after 20 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years prior to that and has received his certifications and years of training through DOCJT in Richmond.


Officer Torstrick worked at the Harlan County Sheriff's Department and prior to that as a Trooper for the Florida Highway Patrol for three years. he is originally from this area and is a father and husband. Officer Torstrick said during the ceremony that he is excited to begin this part of his career at the Middlesboro Police Department.
