Two Tennessee residents arrested on multi-agency charges for scam

From The Clay County Sheriff's Department -

On Friday, November 15, 2019 Clay County Sheriff Patrick Robinson became aware of two individuals that had scammed multiple businesses within Southeastern Kentucky. Sheriff Robinson and other units conducted surveillance on a fugitive. This was after the location was received of the subject wanting to meet a Perry County business inside Clay County.


Once the investigation and surveillance was complete, two individuals - identified as 46 year old Bennie King and 23 year old Shayla King both of Lafollette Tennessee - were arrested without incident on South Highway 421. Both were wanted out of Bell, Laurel, and Whitley County.


Bennie King was charged with 3 counts of theft by deception - cold checks, persistent felony offender, forgery - 1st degree, and possession of a forged instrument - 1st degree.

Shayla King was charged with 2 counts of failure to appear in court and criminal possession of a forged instrument - 1st degree.


Both are lodged in the Clay County Detention Center.
