18-year-old In Jail After Harlan Police Respond To A Firearm Incident

Harlan Police Chief Winston Wink Yeary tells us that Saturday night, July 19, 2025, at approximately 8:16pm, the police department responded to a call of an individual pointing a firearm from a vehicle near the Harlan Center. The incident occurred just after individuals concluded a "Kentucky Resist" protest and were standing in the parking lot.


Following an investigation at the scene, 18-year-old Marcus Slusher of Harlan was arrested and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center charged with terroristic threatening - 2nd degree and menacing.


The investigation is ongoing and being led by Capt. Mitch Alford of the Harlan Police Department. Police Chief Yeary says, "We take incidents like these seriously, and we are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all our citizens. Our officers responded promptly, and we will continue to investigate this matter thoroughly."
