A call of a man acting suspicious nets one arrest with multiple charges

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at approximately 5:50 am Knox County Deputy Jeremiah Williamson responded to a complaint of a man acting suspiciously in the Legacy Ford Dealership parking lot on Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin. When Deputy Williamson arrived at the dealership, he observed a man - later identified as 20-year-old Matthew E. Gray of Corbin - attempting to gain entry into a vehicle.


After the deputy confronted Gray, he attempted to flee on foot. When Deputy Williamson caught up with the Gray, he became combative and began to fight. After a struggle, Gray was subdued.


Mathew Gray was arrested and charged with Fleeing or Evading Police-2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Assault-3rd Degree/Police Officer, and Menacing. During the arrest a plastic bag containing suspected heroin and a plastic bag of assorted pills were found in his possession. Gray was then charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-1st Degree, Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.


Mathew Gray was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
