In regard to the non-partisan Middlesboro City Council race to be decided on November 3rd...
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, another candidate for the nine seat race has decided to withdraw from the lineup of those filing earlier this year.
Omar S. Omar stated in a Facebook past that he made the "difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming election. Balancing my work commitments, family time with my son, and personal matters requires my full focus right now, leaving me without the time necessary to serve our community in the way it deserves." Omar also stated he is putting his support behind another candidate.
Prior to this announcement two other candidates dropped out. Earlier this year Justin Howard decided not to run, and more recently current city councilman Tommy Joe Mike withdrew.
This leaves the remaining candidates without any opposition since nine are running and nine seats need to be filled. That is, unless someone files as a write-in candidate before the 4:00 p.m. deadline on Monday, August 24th.
The remaining candidates are:
Brad Cawood
Chase Allen
Dawn Risner
Floyd Brahnam II
Glynna Brown
Jake Brock
Judy Meredith Grandey
Terry Poore
Todd Ralston
