Arjay Man Arrested After Admitting To Sexual Offenses Involving A Juvenile

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, KSP Trooper Abner responded to a Highway 66 residence to assist Child Protective Services on a referral.
Upon arrival, contact was made with the mother of a 12-year-old juvenile after allegations that the child was having a sexual relationship with 18-year-old Jerry R. Smith of Arjay, Kentucky.
Trooper Abner states in the citation that he spoke with Smith who admitted he had been in the sexual relationship with the juvenile since March of this year. He further stated he had "consensual sex" with the juvenile multiple times a week.
Smith added that he and the juvenile were engaged to be married after he had already proposed to her and that the mother was aware of the relationship. He claimed the mother was "ok" with it.
Jerry Smith was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with rape - 1st degree - victim under the age of 12 and sodomy - 1st degree - victim under the age of 12.
No bond has been set at this time and his first preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, August 26th in Bell District Court.
The mother of the child has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. Releasing her name at this time would reveal the identity of the juvenile.
