Claiborne County Stabbing Results in One Arrested for Attempted Murder

A short time after midnight, there was a reported stabbing of a 52-year-old man at Catdaddy's gas station on Broad Street in Tazewell. Multiple law enforcement units responded including Tazewell Police Department assisted by Claiborne County Sheriff's Department.
Police Chief Jeremy Myers tells WRIL that an individual identified as 41-year-old Billy J Walton, no address listed, has been booked into the Claiborne County Jail. He has been charged by Tazewell Deputy Chief Josh Fields with Homicide: Attempt to commit 1st degree murder regarding the stabbing of Jackie Johnson, an employee of the store.
Walton is accused of stabbing Johnson who was transported by Tazewell Police Department to Covenant Hospital and then flown to UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
While more details have not been released by the Tazewell Police Department, an eyewitness states that the attack stems from a disagreement between the two men.
The condition of Johnson has not been made public at this time, but he is alive.
Deputy Chief Fields is in charge of the investigation.
