From WRIL -
On Tuesday afternoon October 13, 2020 in the City of Harlan a check-cashing business was robbed at gunpoint. Customer service Representative Sheila Smith of HLT Check Exchange, tells WRIL that a young male around 5 ft 10 inches, wearing a gray hoodie, blue bandanna and sunglasses came into the business.
Ms. Smith states the individual was armed and tied her hands behind her back at gunpoint, taking an undisclosed amount of cash. She was unable to see how the robber left the scene, but warned people in a Facebook post to watch themselves because: “if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone” She also believes someone may brag about the crime.
Ms. Smith tells us that this individual is thought to have attempted a robbery at a similar business in Harlan prior to her incident.
We have contacted the Harlan City Police Department to speak with Officer Mitch Alford in charge of the investigation. We expect to hear from him or the Harlan Police Chief shortly.
If you have knowledge of this incident or the whereabouts of the suspect, please call the Harlan Police Department at 606-573-1132. All calls will be kept confidential.
