From WRIL -
On Friday night November 19, 2021, Kentucky State Police Post 10 responded to a call in the Putney community of a female, identified as Ashley North, not breathing.
Public Information Officer Trooper Shane Jacobs tells WRIL that once troopers were on scene they made contact with the owner of the residence, 58-year-old Donald Turner of Baxter, Kentucky. Ashley North, the girlfriend of Turner, was found unresponsive.
Lifeguard Ambulance Service also responded determining Ashley was deceased and Harlan County Coroner Jim Rich declared her dead at 12:55am.
Detectives Andy Soltess and Jake Middleton then responded to the scene opening an investigation. The preliminary findings were that the victim's injuries and evidence on scene were consistent with Turner exposing North to serious physical injury leading to her death.
An autopsy has been performed in Frankfort, the results and toxicology report are pending.
Donald Turner was arrested early Saturday morning November 20, 2021, and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center charged with unlawful imprisonment and kidnapping (victim deceased). He is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.
The case remains under investigation by KSP Detective Jake Middleton.
Also assisting on scene was the Harlan County Sheriff's Department.
