Cawood man arrested after standoff with law enforcement

Monday, March 11, 2024, Deputy CJ Reed attempted to execute a traffic stop in Cawood when a male subject stopped the vehicle and fled on foot to a residence on Sawmill Hollow Road.


Deputy Reed attempted to enter but the door had been reinforced with furniture preventing entry. The male subject, later identified as 35-year-old Nicholas Holliman, could be seen wielding a knife and stating "you will have to kill me."


Sergeant Geary Ferguson and Deputies CJ Reed and Cody Bargo began negotiating with Holliman and eventually he opened the door and threw out his knife.


Nicholas Holliman was arrested by Deputy CJ Reed with the assistance of Sergeant Geary Ferguson and Deputy Cody Bargo. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center charged with Wanton endangerment - 1st Degree (Police Officer), Fleeing or Evading the Police (On Foot), Menacing, and he was several warrants out of Madison County.
