Checkpoint catches a man wanted for trying to get drugs into a jail

Saturday August 31, 2019 – Bell County Deputies Adam Southern and Jake Perry were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint in the vicinity of Bella Gardens Apartments.


A passenger in a vehicle coming through the checkpoint, identified as 36 year old Delbert Roark of Middlesboro, was found to have two outstanding bench warrants.


One of the two was taken out by Deputy Patrick Brooks in regard to an attempt to introduce contraband to the Bell County Detention Center. In the warrant, Roark is charged with throwing six small packages over a fenced in area of the facility containing a combination of tobacco and a crystal-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine.


A search incident to arrest revealed that Roark was found to be in possession of a small white pill believed to be suboxone.


Delbert Roark was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with possession of controlled substance – 2nd degree – drug unspecified, and he was served the two outstanding bench warrants.


He is being held without bond.
