Claiborne County Sheriff releases more information on Speedwell standoff

From The Claiborne County Sheriff's Department -

Roger S Wilder - CCJ

Here is the official release on an incident we told you about on our 106.3fm social media. On Sunday night August 16th, Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call on Back Valley Rd in Speedwell in regard to items burning in the roadway.

Upon arrival, Deputies were told of a possible person who may have started the fire. That information lead Deputies to a residence on Summit Dr in Speedwell.

Deputies then made contact with 31 year old Roger S Wilder through a window of the residence. His face and body were painted and he was acting very erratic while pouring gasoline inside the residence. Wilder told Deputies that he had a hostage that he was going to kill and burn the house down.

The Claiborne County S.W.A.T. Team responded to the scene. A standoff ensued with Wilder and at some point Wilder began physically assaulting and strangling the hostage. The S.W.A.T. Team made entry into the residence and took Wilder into custody. Roger S Wilder was arrested and charged with Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance.
