Donation jar thief caught

On Wednesday, November 6, 2019 Knox County Deputy Elijah Broughton received a complaint of a man taking a donation jar from a local business in the Corbin area of Knox County.


The donation jar, containing an undermined amount of cash, was collecting money for the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter. During the investigation the perpetrator was identified as 36 year old Troy Grubb of Corbin. On Tuesday, November 12, 2019 Deputy Broughton obtained a Knox County arrest warrant for Grubb.


Deputies had made numerous attempts to locate him in Knox and Whitley Counties over the next few days.


Through the investigation, leads were developed that Troy Grubb was staying at the former Oak Place Apartments behind the Trademart Shopping Center. On Friday, November 22, 2019 Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith and SGT Carl Bolton located Troy Grubb inside one of the apartments attempting to hide behind a bed.


Grubb was arrested and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition-under $500 and was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
