Middlesboro Police tell WRIL that early Saturday morning June 4, 2022, around 2:00am, officers were dispatched to the BP gas station at 38th Street and Cumberland Avenue in reference to a business alarm.
Upon arrival, officers found that the front glass door had been broken out indicating a break in. Officers cleared the business and observed that the cash drawers inside the store had been tampered with.
During the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify 23-year-old Alex Blevins of Pineville as a prime suspect in the burglary. A short time later, Blevins was located during a traffic stop on Highway 190 in Pineville. He confessed to the burglary, was taken into custody, and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with burglary - 3rd degree. Officers were able to recover all money stolen during the course of the theft.
Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson is in charge of the investigation, assisted by Lt. Clay Hurd, Officer Nick Capps, and Officer Morgan Justice of MPD as well as Chief Deputy Jared Smith of the Bell County Sheriffs Office.
