Former Bell magistrate arrested

Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Rick Cloyd along with Deputy Allen Turner arrested Charles Ric Cornett age 58 of Pineville, Kentucky on Friday night January 4, 2019 at approximately 7:08 PM.


The arrest occurred on KY 192 in London at I– 75 after deputies observed a tractor-trailer weaving on the roadway and conducted a traffic stop determining that the driver was under the influence following an investigation.


Cornett was charged with careless driving; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; and CDL under the influence. He was lodged in the Laurel County detention center.


Cornett served as Bell County Magistrate for District 1 for eight years.
