Former Letcher County Kentucky educator and coach arrested on sexual offenses involving a juvenile

A former teacher, coach, and bus driver for the Letcher County School system has been indicted and arrested on sexual offenses involving a female student.  In November of 2023, WRIL was contacted about incidents involving 54-year-old Brian Wesley Bailey of Benham, Kentucky.


We have discovered that after running a daily bus route for Letcher County Schools, Bailey was confronted by law enforcement regarding an inappropriate relationship with a female student in the school system. KSP Post 13 Detective Scott Caudill is in charge of the ongoing investigation.


According to the the citation, Bailey was arrested on Sunday, February 11th by Whitesburg Police and booked into the Letcher County Jail on a Kentucky State Police indictment warrant.  He has been charged with three counts of possessing/viewing matter portraying sexual performance of a minor aged 12 - 18 years old - 1st offense, rape - 3rd degree, and tampering with physical evidence.


He is being held on a $250,000 cash bond and will be on home incarceration if released. Also, he will have no contact with minors, no computer or cellphone usage, and no access to the internet.


He is scheduled to be arraigned in Letcher County Circuit Court on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.


Letcher County Schools Superintendent Denise Yonts has confirmed that Brian Wesley Bailey is no longer employed with the school system.
