Four in Middlesboro charged with drug trafficking after several complaints from neighborhood

From WRIL -

On Thursday, July 11, 2021 just before 5:30pm Middlesboro Officers Chris Barnes, Jeremiah Johnson, and Ryan Collins went to an apartment complex on west Chester Avenue for a “Knock and Talk”. This was in response to several complaints about drug activity at all times of the day and a chemical odor coming from the residence.

As the officers approached the apartment, Officer Barnes states that they smelled the odor they had been told about which was determined to be Methamphetamine being smoked.

After knocking, the officers came in contact with 46-year-old Evelyn King who opened the door. Officer Barnes also states that the smoke was so thick inside the apartment it looked like it was on fire. In plain sight were several distribution bags laying to the left side of the door on an air mattress along with a digital scale with a crystal-like residue on the top.

The officer then heard the sound of people scattering inside the back of the apartment and he made entry. The officer heard the flushing of a toilet and he opened it to find 28-year-old Megan King standing with a large Ziplock baggie that had been emptied still with white residue laying at her feet. King was then asked to step out of the room.

At the same time, Officer Johnson followed the trail of smoke to the back bedroom where he found 19-year-old Angel Bullins and 37-year-old Robert Coffey who he detained due to drug paraphernalia laying all over the room. This included a still smoking glass pipe filled with a crystal-like substance. Also found was another set of digital scales with more residue on top, more distribution bags, eight bongs used for smoking Methamphetamine, and cash.

A total of $1,104 was recovered from both Robert Coffey and Megan King. Angela Bullins and Evelyn King were found to have outstanding warrants.

During the arrest, everyone was asked if they had anything illegal on them and were told additional charges would apply if anything was found after leaving the residence. Angel Bullins then removed a glass pipe from her bra area. Once at the police station for processing, Officer Johnson observed Megan King on camera put her hands inside her shorts. After being confronted by the officer about what he saw King removed three clear bags that had been concealed in a body cavity that all contained a crystal white residue.

Robert Coffey, Megan King, and Angel Bullins were all lodged in the Bell County Detention center.

Robert Coffey was charged with trafficking in controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine) and buying/possessing drug paraphernalia.

Angel Bullins was charged with trafficking in controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine) and buying/possessing drug paraphernalia. She was also served a warrant for failure to appear.

Megan King was charged with trafficking in controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine) buying/possessing drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence.

Due to a pre-existing condition requiring medical attention, Evelyn King was cited to court. She was charged with trafficking in controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine), and buying/possessing drug paraphernalia.
