Gray Kentucky Man Arrested and Charged With Arson

On September 27, 2025 Knox County Deputy Thomas Martin responded to a report of a vehicle on fire at a residence on Hazel Fork Road in Gray.

When Deputy Martin arrived the vehicle was still on fire. Deputy Martin assisted the owner in extinguishing the fire by using water from a nearby mud puddle.

During his investigation, Deputy Martin learned that the victim was near the vehicle when Jerry Smith threw a container of gasoline on the vehicle and set it on fire.

 Deputy Martin located and arrested 45-year-old Jerry Smith of Gray, KY charging him with Arson-1^st Degree, Wanton Endangerment-1^st Degree and Criminal Mischeif-1^st Degree.

Jerry Smith was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
