A Corbin man is facing child abuse and domestic violence charges after he allegedly hit his girlfriend with a broom and punched her 6-year-old son Saturday night.
27 year old Dallas Lawson, was arrested on charges of first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 years or younger, and fourth-degree assault – domestic violence – minor injury.
Kentucky State Police were called to the residence on Dr. Parker Lane off of South Ky. 233 in Gray at approximately 7:10 p.m.
The female victim told police that she and Lawson had gotten into an altercation that turned physical and that Lawson had struck her multiple times in the leg with a broom resulting in visible bruising.
“During the altercation he (Lawson) struck her 6 year old son in the face with a closed fist,” stated Trooper Sydney Wager wrote in the arrest citation noting that the child was taken to an area urgent care facility for treatment but was found to be bruised.
Lawson was arrested at approximately 11:20 a.m. Sunday at the residence and was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
Lawson is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to Knox District Court on April 16 for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a grand jury.
Under Kentucky law, first-degree criminal abuse is a class C felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of five to ten years.
