From WRIL -
On Thursday October 3, 2019 an employee of the Harlan County Detention Center was arrested and charged with promoting contraband – 1st degree.
WRIL spoke to Kentucky State Police Lt Caudill who says that Post 10 received a complaint from the detention center that an employee was possibly bringing in contraband to the facility.
Trooper A. Caldwell had been at the facility on a different matter and returned to confront 24-year-old Demarcus Williams about the complaint. During the investigation Trooper Caldwell seized narcotics Williams had in his possession. He was then arrested and lodged in the detention center. He was given and posted a $1,000 cash bond on Saturday October 5, 2019 and released.
While we have been contacted about an individual the contraband was being delivered to which has yet to be confirmed, Lt. Caudill states that this is an ongoing investigation.
His first appearance in Harlan District Court will be on Monday October 14, 2019 at 1pm.
