Harlan County Sheriff’s Office makes arrest on burglary charges

On Thursday morning, May 28th Deputies responded to a Burglary complaint at the Cumberland Elementary School Family Resource & Youth Service Center. It was discovered that someone had made entry into the building overnight and some items had been taken from inside.


After an investigation, Shawn Ashley, 21, of Totz was arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree. Upon making contact with Ashley, some of the stolen items were found in his possession. Investigation also revealed that Ashley was responsible for additional burglaries and additional charges are pending at this time.


Through further investigation, it was discovered that another individual had possession of some of the stolen items. Candy Ball, 36, of Cumberland was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property.


Both subjects were arrested and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Cumberland Police Department.
