Harlan County teacher arrested

From WRIL -

Matthew Hubbard - HCDC

On Tuesday, October 8, 2019 an Evarts teacher was arrested at the parking lot of school he teaches in for alcohol related offenses.

49 year old Matthew Hubbard of Evarts was arrested by Harlan County Deputy Matt Cope. Deputy Cope tells WRIL that he responded to Evarts Elementary School, where Hubbard was employed, and took him into custody.

We have discovered that Hubbard was fired from the Claiborne County Tennessee School system prior to his employment in the Harlan County School system and we are gathering more information as to the nature of that firing.

We have reached out to the Harlan School Board for comment on his arrest. We have been informed that Hubbard has been suspended and a determination on his future with the school system will be determined by the school board at the next monthly meeting.

Matthew Hubbard was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place - 1st and 2nd offenses. He has since been released from custody.

His arraignment is set for Monday,October 21, 2019 at 10:00am in Harlan District Court.
