UPDATE - Harrogate Tennessee shooting leaves one dead and one in custody - CHARGES UPGRADED

The Claiborne County Sheriff's Department has upgraded the charges against a woman in a shooting death. In a facebook press release the department stated:


"In the early hours of Sunday, September 26, Officers of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call for service at a residence on Mockingbird Circle in Harrogate. Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased body of David Allen Laws (43), the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.


The caller, Mamie Nicole Shafer (42), was taken into custody on the charge of Carrying or Possession of a Weapon by a

Convicted Felon and interviewed by investigators at the Claiborne County Justice Center. On Monday, September 27th, Shafer was also charged with Criminal Homicide. Shafer is currently being held at the Claiborne County Jail with a $1,000,000 bond.

WRIL ORGINIAL STORY


On Sunday, September 26, 2021, shortly before 2:00 am the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a male being shot in the arm at a residence in Harrogate on Mockingbird Circle.


Once on scene deputies discovered that the incident was much more serious than originally reported to dispatch. The individual who was shot, identified as David A Laws, died on scene from the wounds he sustained in the incident.

A woman, identified as 42-year-old Mamie Nicole Shafer, was also on scene and had a gun at the time of the shooting. She was initially detained, but was then lodged in the Claiborne County Jail. It has since been determined that she is a convicted felon and was charged with possession of a firearm.


This is an ongoing investigation and other details are expected to be released soon by the Claiborne County Criminal Investigation Division.


Also responding to the scene was the Claiborne County EMS.
