House Fire Claims The Life of a Harlan Woman - Victim Identified

On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 9:22 p.m., Post 10 Harlan received a call reporting a house fire at 229 Shell Hollow Road in the Eastbrook community of Harlan County.


Sergeant Chase Maynard, Trooper Cameron Cornett, and Trooper Colby Cochran responded to the scene along with the West Cloverfork Fire Department and Sunshine Fire Department. Upon arrival, responders found the residence fully engulfed in flames.


After the fire was extinguished, a female victim was located near the front entrance of the residence. The victim was identified as 62-year-old Judy Holden. Mrs. Holden sustained fatal injuries as a result of the fire.


Harlan County Coroner Derrick Noe responded to the scene and pronounced Mrs. Holden deceased. Detective Jonathan Ledford also responded and is conducting a further investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.


At this time, no foul play is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Harlan County Rescue Squad and additional first responders assisted at the scene.
