Update from the Knox County Sheriff's Department -
Thursday, July 4, 2019 - (Hinkle, KY.) Sgt. Carl Frith reports that at approximately 4:30am a man identified as Charles Mcvey was operating a 1982 white Chevrolet Truck on Highway 1304.
McVey traveled over a hill meeting 52 year old Mearldene Abner of Girdler who was walking up the hill in the middle of the road. Mr. Mcvey was unable to avoid striking Mr. Abner who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner's Office.
Sgt. Frith reports that Mr. McVey did not appear to be impaired, but was taken to Barbourville ARH per protocol for a blood test.
The investigation is continuing and being handled by Deputy Mikey Ashurst.
