Infant swallows meth, four people arrested in Laurel County

From Laurel County Sheriff John Root -

Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards along with Detective Daniel Grigsby with assistance from Bailiff Paige Vanhook and Sgt. Jack Caudill arrested four individuals off Ray Johnson Road, approximately 5 miles north of London on Wednesday afternoon May 8, 2019 at approximately 12:33 PM.


The arrests occurred after the Sheriff’s office was notified that a seven month old child had allegedly ingested or been exposed to methamphetamine at a residence off Ray Johnson Road and that the child was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London and then transferred by ground by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to the University of Kentucky Medical Center to the neo-natal intensive care unit for treatment.


When investigators arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation, 4 adult individuals two of which were caregivers for the seven month old child and two that were at the residence were arrested and were identified as:

Linda Sue Mays age 59 of Ray Johnson Rd., East Bernstadt charged with criminal abuse – first-degree – child 12 or under – this individual was a caregiver to the seven month old child.


Lindsey A. Browning age 25 of Ray Johnson Rd., East Bernstadt charged with criminal abuse – first-degree – child 12 or under – this individual was a caregiver to the seven month old child. This individual admitted using methamphetamine on Monday night/Tuesday morning while supposedly taking care of the child.




Christopher Mays age 34 of Ray Johnson Rd., East Bernstadt – this individual was present at a residence where a child allegedly ingested methamphetamine.







Russell L. Mays, Sr age 59 of Ray Johnson Rd., East Bernstadt charged with criminal abuse – first-degree – child 12 or under – this individual was present at a residence where a child allegedly ingested methamphetamine.

All four individuals were lodged in the Laurel County detention center.
