WRIL has learned that the escape of an inmate on Wednesday night came to light just after 8:30pm. The inmate has been identified as 33-year-old Paul Brown of Dayhoit, Kentucky. Apparently Brown was taking out the garbage and fled the facility on foot.
Within approximately 30 minutes of the escape being made known to the public, Paul Brown was apprehended and placed back in custody. Kentucky State Police are handling the investigation and have charged Brown with escape - 2nd degree which carries an additional five year sentence if convicted.
Brown was being held on multiple charges with the most serious being fleeing or evading police on foot, trafficking Methamphetamine, Heroin, and Carfentanil/Fentanyl derivatives, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property (firearm), and theft of a firearm.
Assisting in the incident was Barbourville City Police and Knox County Ky Sheriff's Department.
