On December Tuesday 10, 2019 at approximately 12:05 am Knox County Deputy Mikey Ashurst responded to a domestic violence complaint involving a physical altercation at a residence on Alex Creek Road in the Big Creek area of Stinking Creek.
After making contact with the female victim, Deputy Ashurst learned that Christopher Stoots had left the residence on foot in the pouring rain taking his 3 year old daughter, who was not wearing a coat, with him.
The female victim also stated that Christopher Stoots had thrown her through a wall and had choked her. Deputy Ashurst canvassed the neighborhood for approximately an hour when he was flagged down by a person that stated she was awaken by a baby crying under her house and that a man carrying a baby fled into the woods when the deputy pull up.
Deputy Ashurst entered the woods and was told by another man that he had found the baby. The baby was soaked due to the heavy down pour of rain and was freezing. Deputy Ashurst continued the search and located Stoots hiding in the woods. Stoots was uncooperative, after a brief struggle Stoots was apprehended.
Christopher Stoots age 39 of Flat Lick, KY was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree, Endangering Welfare of a Minor, Fleeing or Evading Police-2nd Degree, Assault-2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Public Intoxication/Controlled Substance-meth, Criminal Trespass-2nd Degree and Disorderly Conduct-2nd Degree. After being placed inside the patrol vehicle, Stoots ripped the inside panel off the door, he was then charged with Criminal Mischief-2nd Degree.
Christopher Stoots was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center and is held on a $25,000 cash bond.
The female victim of the assault and the 3 year old child were transported to the Barbourville ARH for treatment by Knox EMS.
