On Saturday, June 7, 2025, SGT Jesse Smith, along with other Knox County Deputies, conducted a search at a residence on KY 459 near Barbourville. The search was the result of an investigation being conducted by SGT Smith into reports of illegal drug trafficking by 24-year-old Nathaniel Edison of Barbourville, Ky. that led to the seizure of a large amount of suspected Cocaine and a loaded firearm.


During the search of the residence, THC Vapes, THC Wax, marijuana, several pills, scales, baggies, other drug paraphernalia, and several firearms were located and seized during the search.

Nathaniel Edison was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance - 1st Degree - Cocaine, Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Trafficking in Legend Drugs.


During the arrest, Nathaniel Edison attempted to bribe the deputies by offering cash not to arrest him. Nathaniel Edison was then charged with Bribery of a Public Servant. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.


Barbourville City Police Department and Laurel County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.
